About Me"Fine Art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together."

Art classes weren't available to me until high school in my school district, and I craved them. When I finally had art classes in high school, it was immediately apparent that was what I wanted to do for my whole life. I also began to notice how many of my peers sought me out for assistance, and how much pleasure I took in giving it. I loved being able to share my love of art with others. A spark was lit within me, a desire to become an art teacher.
Years later, that flame still burns brightly. As a student-teacher, I am inspired daily by the enthusiasm of my young pupils. It brings me joy to see their unbridled creativity as I facilitate their access to the art world. All too often I hear adults self-deprecate their artistic skills, saying things like "I can't even draw a stick figure." Pablo Picasso once said, "All children are artists. The problem is how to remain artists once we grow up." As an art teacher, I hope to intervene before this change so that all students grow up with artistic self-confidence and a willingness to try.
