Artist Statement
The following document is an artist statement written for my art display at the College of Idaho's 2013 Senior Show, Experiential Continuum. For art majors at the College of Idaho, the Senior Show is the highlight of four years of fine arts studies -- a culminating showcase of creative talent and content knowledge. My artist statement below is an artifact of my Senior Show experience, where I participated with my cohort of graduating art majors to produce work and organize an exhibition within Rosenthall Gallery. My contributions to the effort speak to my ability to Show Professionalism (4f) while Participating in a Professional (Artistic) Community (4d).
My statement on A Harvest Tribute was written to highlight my contemporary and historical sources of inspiration, explain my choices for medium and presentation, and share my artistic motivation for producing the pieces. The purpose of an artist's statement is to bridge the gap between the artist and viewer, and explain the artist's intent in creating the work. A well-written artist statement can be critical to the perception of a piece of art. My artist statement for my gallery display showcases my ability to clearly Communicate, a sub-aspect (4c) of Domain #4.
As an art teacher, it is my duty not only to perform professionally as an educator, but to also lead by example to demonstrate the dispositions and practices of a professional artist.
