Thank You Letter
In the spring term of 2010, I had to interview a teacher in my subject area for Professor Debra Yate's Introduction to Teaching course (EDU 202). After initiating communication with Ms. Linda McMillin, a Parma artist and first-year teacher, she quickly agreed to show me her classroom and allow me to conduct an interview.
I visited Notus Jr./Sr. High School on April 13th, 2010. Ms. McMillin kindly gave me a tour of the school, showing me her students' projects with enthusiasm. I concluded my visit with an interview that lasted approximately one hour. Before I left, Ms. McMillin presented me with a gift, The Art Teacher's Book of Lists, by Helen D. Hume. The textbook had been very useful to her, and she generously gave it to me with the words, "To Jenette, From Ms. McMillin, Good luck!" written inside the cover.
To thank Ms. McMillin for her time, her words of advice, and her gift, I wrote and sent her a thank you letter. Following up the interview with a courteous letter created a good impression of professionalism and further fosters a respectful and supportive relationship between Ms. McMillin and I. The letter further demonstrates my skill to format and write a proper letter, an important communication method in any profession. This letter, expressing my gratitude, represents one facet of Professional Responsibilities, Danielson's Domain #4.
