ADD/ADHD Adapted Lesson Plan
This next artifact is a lesson plan designed to include accommodations for ADHD students. It was created as part of Mr. Breach's Exceptional Child for General Educators class, which I was enrolled in the fall of 2012. The lesson provided here is about using the grid as an artistic tool. The purpose of the lesson is to teach students when and how to use grids to assist in duplicating images, as well as to give a brief introduction into the history of grid works in art. Note on the included rubric that my professor, who has extensive knowledge of teaching students with special needs, gave me a full score on the assignment and praised my efforts to differentiate and accommodate.
This lesson plan is designed to impart critical artistic content and skills to all students, with a concerted effort to support ADD/ADHD students. To create this lesson plan I had to draw upon my knowledge of the obstacles ADD/ADHD students face as well as research-backed accommodations that support their learning. Applying this knowledge to my content area demonstrates my readiness as a future teacher to engage in adapting instruction for individual needs. This demonstrates my Knowledge of Students (1b) and my design of Coherent Instruction (1e). Both are parts of Danielson's Domain #1: Planning and Preparation.
